I had the hankering for a cafe mocha yesterday and instead of heading to Starbucks I went to another big national food chain that just opened in town. Disaster! Not only did it not taste good – I totally got sick later in the day (I can only assume it was from the strange “syrup” I saw them pumping into the cup before the espresso went in).
Needless to say I was pissed, and went on a web search last night for a tasty recipe to make at home. Well I found one and it only took me two batches to get it just right for my liking – i.e. I used decaf ground beans and soy milk!
HEATHER’S CAFE MOCHA
2 shots espresso (I find French Roast has a better flavor for a mocha)
1 cup vanilla soy milk
3 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
3 tbsp sugar
Mix EQUAL parts unsweetened cocoa powder and sugar together, of course by all means feel free and lower the sugar content if you like, but this was the perfect mixture for me!
Heat 1 cup soy milk in microwave (mine took just over a minute)
Make 2 shots espresso
Mix cocoa/sugar mixture into soy milk, make sure there are no cocoa lumps
Then mix in the espresso
ENJOY!
