I adore cinnamon toast – any time day or night, it’s a big hit in my book. I think it started because when I was very little my father managed a fuel oil company in Maine. If a customer ran out of heating oil in the middle of the night my dad had to go deliver heating oil so folks wouldn’t freeze in their houses during a cold Maine winter.
How does this tie in to me you ask? Well, my bedroom was directly over the laundry room which was the main family entrance to the house. When dad would come back in the middle of the night from delivering oil, my mom would make him cinnamon toast before they went to bed. I would sneak down the back stairs into the kitchen, sit on his lap and eat half his snack, so mom would have to make more.
This is a grown up version because instead of using plain cinnamon – I doctor it up with my favorite garam masala.
Don’t knock it until you try it. And once you try it you’ll never go back to plain cinnamon toast again.
